Sometimes nature needs a helping hand. Outback Wildlife Rescue tells the incredible stories of everyday heroes bound by a single mission: to save wildlife, anywhere, anytime.

From the tropical Queensland coast to monsoonal Darwin, to the red deserts of Alice Springs and beyond, Outback Wildlife Rescue - hosted by Ernie Dingo - features breathtaking scenery, colourful characters, dramatic rescues, thrilling crocodile patrols and heartfelt emotion as animals are saved and returned to the wild.

Nature lover Ernie, who has four horses and a cat as pets, is excited to introduce viewers to some unique native animals and the dedicated and passionate people who protect them.

“Outback Wildlife Rescue will give kids a great opportunity to see people sharing their world with animals they wouldn’t even see in a zoo,” he says.
“They will learn to share the same ideals that these people have in caring and protecting wildlife that is so precious to all Australians, whether furry, feathered or finned.”

During the 13-part series we’ll meet the owners of The Ark Animal Hospital in Darwin. The Ark is refuge for the Top End’s injured wildlife and hundreds of unique animals come through its doors every year.

The Top End is also a land inhabited by killer reptiles. There’s an estimated 70,000 saltwater crocodiles here - the highest concentration on the planet. And it’s the job of Northern Territory Parks and Wildlife rangers to help protect them - by keeping the crocodiles away from people.

Like crocs, snakes are hard to love. But in towns like Katherine and Darwin they are a fact of life - and the job of some courageous guys who have the government contracts to remove the unwanted serpents, which count among the most deadly in the world.

In Beerwah, Queensland, is one of Australia’s most extraordinary vet clinics. The Australian Wildlife Hospital is a non-stop, 24-hour, MASH-style emergency ward. Everyday the hospital is called on to help more than 100 animals in need.

And across the country are the volunteers who give up their time and often their own resources to help the unique animals that call Australia home.

Outback Wildlife Rescue is a Freehand Production, produced with the assistance of Channel Seven and distributed by BBC Worldwide.
